My artwork is all about skateboard stair sets. I used collage and mixed media to create this piece, combining different materials to show how exciting these stair sets can be. Whenever I see a stair set, I feel a strong urge to grab my skateboard and ride down it. It’s not just about the stairs, it’s about the thrill and adventure that comes with skateboarding.

I recreated the album cover for ‘The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess’ by Chappel Roan, a queer pop artist whose music I’ve been enjoying since last year. Although my traditional art style and my digital art style are usually quite different, especially with how I shade in each medium, I decided to try drawing my digital art style in a traditional format. Chappel Roan is important to me, as a queer youth seeing other queer folk succeed in life while being out and open is incredibly inspiring to me.

I wanted to do a project focusing more on my lungs because Cystic Fibrosis affects them a lot. I had the idea of using my latest Xray to show evidence of my lungs having CF. I first painted with acrylics my body so that I could put the X-ray over it. I then printed the X-ray on transparent paper.

My artwork was created to spread awareness of the plight of endangered species such as the green sea turtle. I chose the green sea turtle because I am generally interested in sea creatures and what is happening to their environment. I initially drew the turtle based on a photograph to create my project. Then, I felted my piece using my drawing and the photograph as a reference.

Impermanence is the nature of charcoal drawing- nothing is permanent until you decide so, and this lifts a great weight off your shoulders. When looking back on photos of the project, it wasn't the final result that intrigued me, but the steps along the way. I preferred seeing the work in progress, how the lines seemed to shift and move as if they were alive.

My artwork is inspired by Maine Artist, Dean McCrillis, who uses similar colors and subject matter in his work, but instead of doing a random animal, I chose to paint my dog. This is because I wanted to paint something I cared about, and I knew I’d put effort into it. It’s more than just an assignment now, it genuinely means something to me, especially as my dog gets older. I tried to have positive emotions like love and happiness linked with the colors I used because that’s how I see my dog. Some of my goals as an artist are to paint more loosely and stop stressing about the little things, as well as work with more animals as my subjects. This piece helped me work towards both of these goals because I got to paint an animal, as well as follow an art style that I’m not used to.

This piece was meant to tell a story. The assignment was to mix an element of reality with one of fantasy, and my art teacher gave me this idea. NASA sent a satellite named Juno to take pictures of Jupiter and its moons, but it just so happens that these objects in space also have names that translate to characters in Greek mythology. Juno is the Roman version of Hera, Jupiter is the Roman version of Zeus, and Jupiter's moons are named after people with whom he had affairs. So the irony is that while in the literal sense, it's just a satellite taking pictures of planets, in the symbolic sense, it's like Hera is exposing her husband by taking pictures of him with his paramours.

What is the beauty I see in Maine's coast? This question is important to me because I have lived in Maine my whole life. I love the beauty every season has to offer and my goal is to get people to recognize the beautiful landscapes all along Maine’s coast. Pastels allow me to get the textures of the water right and allow me to easily get the mixed colors of the sky. I want to portray my ideas about the beauty Maine’s coast.

For as long as I can remember I've had a passion for the railroad, and this semester I found my passion for photography. I learned how to take photos on an analog camera and how to take great pictures on a digital camera. This photograph was taken on my cell phone and edited in Snapseed. I looked at the toy photography of Jerry Business and that inspired me to take pictures of my HO Scale models. I used my Bachmann C&O USRA 0-6-0 as it was small, durable, and easy to transport. To put the cherry on top I used little bits of cotton to create a steam effect to make it seem more realistic. I used a short Depth of Field and I took the photo from a worm's eye view to make the train seem life sized.

My photography focuses on capturing the everyday activities that make life worth living, like a day at the amusement park. I take photos in the spur of the moment using a Paper Shoot Camera, a handheld camera made of paper. I hope to invoke a feeling of nostalgia and warmth in others as they see the small moments. I want viewers to know that my photo is not meant to be remarkable, but familiar and inviting.

My artwork is about capturing the simple things in life through photography. I captured this photograph because I was trying to emulate the photographer, Walker Evans, for a project in my photography class. During my research on him, I saw he took a similar photograph and it inspired me, while in downtown Portland, to take this photograph. I want people to know that this is such a fun way to express myself and capture the simple things I enjoy in life!

I was inspired by traditional blue and white ceramics from the Ming Dynasty. I wanted to experiment and sculpt something I’ve never done before. The hands are there to represent reaching for something beautiful which is what the flowers are there to portray. I started with thick pieces of clay slowly sculpting them down to the hand shape. After the first firing I used a watercolor like technique to paint the flowers finishing it with a shiny clear glaze.

The inspiration for this piece is a collection of things I like: Raccoons, frogs, mushrooms and strawberries. The ghosts remind me of my older sister who moved out of state and I miss her. I used a series of reference images as a guide and created the environment from my mind. I consider this place like the middle of no where. This was a new medium for me. I found the mixing trickier and came up with a pretty good technique for getting the effect I was looking for.
