The PMA is closed on New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

Admission is FREE to all every Friday from 4–8 p.m.**

Reservations are not required, and admission may be purchased onsite.

Parking

NEW Public lot is located next door at 120 Free Street and operates on a first-come, first-served basis.

Parking at the Portland Museum of Art is limited, additional garages and street parking can be found within a short walk of the museum. 

We recommend allowing extra time to park, especially during busy hours and special events.

  • The lot is fully automated, and payment is due upon exit.
  • To speed up departure, visitors are encouraged to pay in advance using the on-site QR code.
  • After payment, you will have 15 minutes to exit before additional charges apply.
  • All major credit and debit cards are accepted (cash is not accepted).
  • Please be sure to bring your ticket inside the museum for validation.
  • See below for validation rates (only applicable to museum visitors and members).
  • Any issues? Please press the help button on-screen at the lot exit. The lot is operated by an external partner.

Several garages and lots are located within a short walk:

  • Spring Street Garage, 45 Spring Street – approximately $3/hour
  • Holiday Inn By the Bay, 40 Spring Street – approximately $2.75/hour
  • Westin Hotel Garage, 181 High Street – $5 first hour, $8 each additional hour

Visitors to the Portland Museum of Art can reserve parking in advance using services like SpotHero or ParkWhiz. Booking ahead can save money, help you secure a space nearby, and make arrival more seamless.


Vehicles displaying a valid disability plate or placard:

  • Are exempt from meter fees.
  • May park up to double the posted time limit at meters and in time-restricted zones.

The 120 Free Street Lot

  • Accessible 24/7. $45 daily rate.
  • The lot is not free on Sundays.
  • The PMA may provide free use of the lot for special events. Please see our events page for more information.
  • PMA reserves the right to hold the entire lot for private events. Please see above for other options.
  • This is not a municipal lot. The PMA assumes no custody, care, control, or liability of your vehicle.
  • Street meter parking is monitored until 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
  • If you need to drop someone off at the PMA, please use the area in front of 142 Free Street.
  • This is an active loading zone only — no parking.

Every third Thursday of the month, the PMA is free throughout the entire day and during extended hours, making Access for All last from 10 a.m.–8 p.m. Generous support provided by Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All program.

The PMA is proud to participate in Museums on Us, a program providing Bank of America and Merrill Lynch credit and debit card holders free museum admission on the first full weekend of every month.

The PMA is a Blue Star Museums member, offering free admission to the nation’s active-duty military personnel and their families, including National Guard and Reserve. (Program begins Armed Forces Day, the third Saturday in May, and ends on Labor Day.)

The PMA participates in Museums for All, offering free admission to those who have SNAP benefits/EBT card.

The PMA currently belongs to The North American Reciprocal Museum (NARM) Association, Museum Alliance Reciprocal Program (MARP), and ROAM (Reciprocal Alliance of Associated Museums). Find participating museums here.
