Chris Newell, Akomawt

Chris Newell (Passamaquoddy) was born and raised in Motahkmikuhk and is a proud citizen of the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Indian Township. He is the Co-Founder and Director of Education for Akomawt Educational Initiative, a majority Native-owned educational consultancy that is dedicated to furthering knowledge of Native America through innovative learning approaches. Akomawt Educational Initiative’s resources help ​cultivate better, more complete understandings of the history and contemporary issues of Native American peoples. Newell’s values and commitment to the teaching of Native American culture, histories, and contemporary issues help guide the narratives of Passages in American Art.
