11 to 11:45 a.m.: Join MECA&D MAT Graduate student Laisa Bellomo-Johnson for a family tour in Passages in American Art – a kid-centered, interactive, guided tour through the exhibition.
Noon to 1:20 pm.: Watch the animated film, The Red Turtle, a story about a man shipwrecked on a tropical island inhabited by turtles, crabs and birds, recounting the milestones in the life of a human being.
Laisa Bellomo-Johnson is an art educator and artist who works primarily with mixed media and traditional photographic techniques. She has a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and is currently a Teacher Candidate in the MAT program at Maine College of Art and Design, in Portland.
Born in Peru but raised equally in Brazil and in Vermont, Laisa's work is a meditation on the nature of identity and the complex relationship of having been raised in such different geographical and cultural realities. As an educator, Laisa strives to bring awareness to the power of art to inform and celebrate our personal stories and to create connections.
Sarah Timm, Director of Education at Maine Maritime Museum, oversees the museum's learning and engagement to connect audiences with Maine's waterways past, present, and future. If it floats or swims, Sarah has likely taught aboard it or about it. Her favorite marine lifeforms are bioluminescent plankton.
