The PMA is a proud member of the Maine Art Museum Trail and participant in this important series. Museums are at a moment of reckoning. Immense social, political, and financial pressure is testing the foundations of institutions, prompting examination of history, the need for change, and the process to acknowledge, repair, and heal.
This spring, The Maine Art Museum Trail presents a digital program series that explores the notion of “making a home” and what that means for institutions and the communities they exist within, bringing to light the stories that have not been told and reflect on the changing museum field.
May 4: Lecture with Maulian Dana
Maulian Dana is the first individual to hold the position of the Penobscot Nation Tribal Ambassador. Through her role of an Ambassador, Dana presents issues important to both the Penobscot Nation and to ever wider Native and non-Native audiences. These issues range from land use, water use and tribal sovereignty, to violence against Native American women, the eradication of the use of Native American mascots, and replacing Columbus Day with a holiday that honors the Indigenous communities present thousands of years before European contact.
Maulian Dana will be introduced by Chris Newell, Executive Director of the Abbe Museum & Senior Partner to Wabanaki Nations.
