Join us Sunday, June 19 with FREE ADMISSION all day as we celebrate Juneteenth!
We’re committed to being an open, accessible, inclusive, and welcoming museum for all, which is why we are so excited to offer free admission ALL WEEKEND, on Saturday, June 18 for Pride and Sunday, June 19 for Juneteenth.
Join us from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Portland-based artist Jordan Carey, founder of Loquat, for quilt designing and discussions on the history of Juneteenth. Carey will be on-site embroidering quilting squares for participants to color and design. After Juneteenth, a quilt will be built by Carey using the designed squares. The finished quilt design will be shown on the PMA's social media and blog.
From Friday, June 17 through Sunday, June 19, we are offering free film screenings as part of a new annual series, “Connection and Collaboration,” commemorating Juneteenth. The films include Cane River, Wattstax, and Brother to Brother.

Jordan Carey is a Bermudian designer and artist based in Portland, Maine. In January 2020, Carey launched Loquat (@loquatshop), a fashion and lifestyle brand focused on empowering marginalized people. The loquat plum was first brought to Bermuda by the British and symbolizes displacement, migration, and community for Carey. The sentiments representing the Bermuda Loquat's story inform the brand's sense of community, collaboration, and storytelling.
