Get to know the artists in Untitled, 2020: Art from Maine in a ________ Time. In this virtual program series, the twenty-five artists from the exhibition will have the opportunity to speak about their background and artistic practice in intimate Q&A’s with the exhibition jurors. The series will be live on Zoom webinar and we encourage questions and participation from those in attendance.
In this edition of “Conversations with Maine Artists in a ______ Time”, join juror Sean Alonzo Harris and artists Ryan Adams, Titi de Baccarat, Rosamond Gross, Eleanor Kipping, Ashley Page, and ARRT!ists: Natasha Mayers and Nora Tryon.
Ryan Adams is an artist and muralist born and raised in Portland, Maine, whose background in graffiti art led him to creating large-scale murals as well as hand lettered signage.
Titi de Baccarat identifies as a painter, sculptor, clothing designer, jeweler, and writer, who has lived in Maine in 2015 after fleeing his home country of Gabon. Dedicated to justice in a hostile political context, he creates artworks and installations that explore his African identity.
Rosamond Gross is an artist, art educator, and mother who lives and works in Southern Maine. Working primarily in photography, she embraces the chaos of everyday life, grabs her camera, and photographs excerpts of it.
Eleanor Kipping explores the experience of the Black diasporic female body in the United States through the examination and deconstruction of historical and contemporary narratives.
Ashley Page examines the vulnerability, grace, and complexities of the Black experience, here using basketry and fiber manipulation techniques to create sculptures reminiscent of bodily forms and various lifecycles of transformation.
Artists’ Rapid Response Team! (also known as ARRT!) is a collective of year-round members of the Union of Maine Visual Artists dedicated to upholding the dignity of artists, while creating positive social change through the arts.
Juror Séan Alonzo Harris is a professional editorial, commercial, and fine art photographer concentrating on narrative and environmental portraiture. Over the past 25 years, his work has been featured in a range of national publications such as The Atlantic, The Paris Review, and Mother Jones, as well as in advertising campaigns and exhibitions at venues such as the PMA and Colby College Museum of Art.
