Tap into your inner superhero and join the Portland Museum of Art for a day full of family friendly activities in connection to Flying Woman: The Paintings of Katherine Bradford.

10 a.m.-5 p.m. Read & Relax space for families in the Lower Ground Floor. Unwind and re-center in this space filled with family-friendly books about color!

10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Superhero Drawing Workshop in the gallery with Jennifer Brou - learn some basics of figure drawing through observation of models dressed as superheroes

11-11:45 a.m. Family Tour on color in Flying Woman - a kid-centered, interactive, guided tour through the exhibition

12-3 p.m. One-minute superhero caricatures with Kate McKenzie of Fern Wave Studio - have your caricature created with a superhero twist

2-5 p.m. Coloring Maine-inspired Superheroes - add color to pages of Maine-inspired superheroes


Meet the artists! 

Jennifer Brou is an artist, designer and educator based in South Portland, Maine. Jennifer studied at the Glasgow School of Art and earned her BFA in Crafts, with a Minor in Photography, from Longwood University. She currently teaches in the Foundation Program at Maine College of Art & Design. Jennifer has 13 years of experience as a designer and developer in the footwear industry. Her studio practice includes knitwear design, photography, and drawing. Jennifer’s knitwear designs have been selected for inclusion in Woolfolk’s 2018 & 19 Wool Elements and 2022 Pre-Fall collections; Brooklyn Tweed’s Wool People 14 and Winter 2022 collections; Farmers Daughter Fibers’ Wisp collection; Making Stories Issue5; Making Magazine Issue14; and Laine Magazine Issue15.  

 

Kate McKenzie  is an illustrator and painter. She grew up in Idaho and moved to Maine for college. She works with children and has found inspiration in creating fun projects and crafts for work. Throughout her artistic journey, she has studied sculpture, ceramics, and had the opportunity to paint various murals. She is currently illustrating children’s books and focusing on her illustration work through Fern Wave Studio.
