February School Vacation Week

This February school vacation week, the PMA is here to help you out with your winter doldrums with special open hours and family programming that includes art-making activities for kids and adult, each day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Join Rachel Somsel Kobasa to explore the exhibition Carrie Moyer and Sheila Pepe: Tabernacles for Trying Times through an all-ages art-making activity: Design a Shrine. Most of us have something (a person, an idea, a practice, or an object) that we know to be sacred (special). Here is your opportunity to build a space to honor it. We'll be folding small boxes and then filling them with images, ideas, or words that relate to the things we hold dear to us. All that is required is knowing what you love and a little creativity! We will provide the materials and structure for you to create your own shrine that you will walk away with.

Rachel Somsel Kobasa is an artist living and working in Portland, Maine. Mostly a printmaker, her studio home base is Pickwick Independent Press. She has an affinity for letters, flat on the page or lit up in neon, and believes in the power of printed material in the public eye. She also spends time painting signs, making natural dyes, repairing clothes, and eating sandwiches.
